AI upskilling for research practitioners.

The brief

Professional societies and university organizers commissioned practical sessions for research practitioners. They wanted training relevant to the research process, with time to try tools, ask questions, and examine the limitations of AI outputs.

What we teach

Topics include developing research ideas and protocols; data collection, analysis, and data science workflows; and literature review, manuscript preparation, and citation verification. Sessions also cover the foundations of using assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude for research and everyday work. The emphasis is on applying the tools and checking the results.

How it’s taught

Sessions run one to two hours, with live demonstrations, discussion, questions, and guided practice. The content is adapted to participants’ experience and the tools available through their organization.

Participation

Over 300 practitioners have attended 10+ workshops and webinars, representing more than 60 institutions across 17 countries. Attendees’ home institutions include Harvard, UC Berkeley, Columbia, University College London, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
